Rest Really Is Important: Here's Four Reasons Why

In our world, especially as Americans, we are always busy. Busy working, or doing homework, constantly attending social engagements, traveling, attending meetings, big house projects, scrolling through social media, vigorously working on our novel, keeping up with our kids and their schedules along with organizing community events, etc.

Being busy and having busy schedules aren’t necessarily bad things, but we can’t forget that rest is important.

Rest is not merely going to sleep and resting our bodies but it's also completely unplugging, taking the time to really relax, or even having some clean fun.

God’s Word says that after six days of creating the world, on the seventh day He rested. Let God be our example of taking the time to rest, and take a step back from our constant activity and jam packed schedules.

The definition of rest, according to the google dictionary, is this: cease work or movement in order to relax, refresh oneself, or recover strength. an instance or period of relaxing or ceasing to engage in strenuous or stressful activity.

Here’s four reasons why rest is important:

1) Resting Allows Us To Be Refreshed In Our Walk With Christ

When we take the time to sit back, rest and unplug from the world around us we can take that time to be refreshed spiritually. We can dig into His Word more without distractions from things, people, or responsibilities, and just plug into Him even more than we do on a daily basis.

Take some time, step away, put everything on hold, and bask in His presence.

2) Resting Can Give Us A New Perspective

Sometimes we need a new perspective - on life, on how to organize our week, on a new way to tackle that big project, or whatever we may have going on in our lives.

Stepping away, taking a break, and resting can give us a new perspective, and fresh ideas.

3) Resting Forces Us To Really Think & Breathe

When we intentionally take that time to rest and lay aside everything that demands our attention on a daily basis, we will be forced to just breathe. Taking the time to breathe and simply think is important.

It feels so good to have time where you don’t have a billion things on your mind, but you can simply think and process something that you’ve been wanting to process and mull over.

Whether it be something you read in God’s Word, or a concept or idea you heard at a conference, or maybe you just need to reflect over your life and evaluate your current goals in life.

Resting allows, and maybe even forces you to think, and also to breathe. Just breathe.

4) Resting Reminds Us To Enjoy Life

When we are able to sit back and simply rest, we have more time to do the beautiful, simple things in life - dance in the kitchen, take a walk barefoot in the grass, go for a swim, read a book, or just sit back in awe of God’s beautiful creation.

Take the time to simply enjoy life, and appreciate the simple things in life.

I think it’s important to know when we need a break from life, and when we need to just rest and re-group. There’s no need to burn out if we’re taking the time to rest, enjoy life, breathe, and connect with God even more.

Remember To Rest. Breathe. Enjoy The Simple Things. Get Refreshed Spiritually. It Is Important.
