Dare To Love Like Jesus

Valentine’s Day is tomorrow and I thought it would be befitting to talk about love and loving people, but more specifically loving like Jesus.

God’s word says that love is patient, kind, and longsuffering, (1 Corinthians 13:4).

Do you reserve this kind of godly love for only certain people? Do you love by being kind, patient, and longsuffering to only your “favorite” people?

Love is an action word, and as Christians, we are to love everyone like Jesus loves. Love the believer, unbeliever, family, co-workers, friends, and even strangers.

This Valentine’s Day, I urge you to think about how Jesus wants us to love others. Love in spite of how you feel, whether hormonal, frustrated, or angry.

Loving others is not always verbally saying, “I love you,” but it’s doing. Meeting a practical need, giving a birthday card, taking the time to listen, keeping negative comments to yourself, sharing encouraging words, and showing that you’re genuinely concerned about another’s well-being.

Remember, love is not a feeling, it’s again, an action. It’s a decision. Make a choice to love, no matter what you’re feeling. Real love doesn't think about themselves, but others first.

1 John 4: 8, 11, 12b, 21 reads:

“He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.

If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and His love is perfected in us.

And this commandment have we from Him, that He who loveth God love His brother also."

As Christians, we have the ability to love like Jesus. The world, who has not experienced God’s love, does not know how to truly love, nor do they know what love really is, or even looks like. We do, so let’s share it with others.

Dare to love like Jesus. A love that’s not based on what you’re feeling, but a pure, godly, undefiled love that is unconditional, not conditional.
